MAYSVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Restoration work to preserve a historic home in northern Kentucky and turn it into a museum and library has begun.
Maysville Mayor David Cartmell tells the Ledger-Independent that the Stanley Reed house will feature a museum and library dedicated to Supreme Court Justice Stanley Reed, as well as the William Akin library. Akin is a Mason County resident and benefactor of several projects.
Cartmell says Akin's daughter, Susan Akin Basham of Nashville, Tenn., donated $50,000 to the city for restoration work on the late 18th century structure that once housed a tavern.
He says that about $10,000 of the donated funds have been used to preserve the outside of the house, including installation of a new roof, and that work will continue all winter.
