The next time you visit the Harrison County Hospital in Corydon, Indiana, you may be required to wear a mask. The hospital is taking precautions for the upcoming flu season. Harrison already had visitor policies in place, but now the rules are stricter.
"With the flu season and H1N1 we have encouraged everybody to step up those precautions, and wear a mask if they do have any active flu-like symptoms," said Angie Phelps, human resources manager.
Visitors who decline, might not get in.
There are stations throughout the hospital with masks, sanitizers, tissues and instructions. It appears people are starting to understand, not only at the hospital, but everywhere. At a Walgreens near the hospital, there aren't holiday displays at the front door, but masks, sanitizers and tissues. Store executives say it is hard to keep the items in stock because of the flu scare.
The hospital is also asking all visitors to wash their hands before entering a patient's room, and patients may only have one or two visitors at a time.
"We do have people who are a little leery of wearing the masks, they come in as patients and visitors. That's why we're encouraging our employees as well, to wear the masks, to make sure they're not exposed to those viruses," said Phelps.
