Big screen televisions, computers, guns, and lots of jewelry were all recovered as part of a major burglary ring.  Five people have been arrested for the crimes, which covered three counties.

The suspects hit more than forty homes in Jefferson County, Mt. Washington, and Bullitt County, which is also where police caught up with the so-called ringleader.

"All the sense of security is gone," says Tanya Cissell.  A burglar broke into her brand-new home in Bullitt County Tuesday morning.  "It just makes you sick," she says, "knowing that you cannot even go to work and you know your home is broken into."

Cissell says the suspect actually kicked in the front door and made a beeline for the master bedroom.  But while he was inside the house, an alert neighbor was already on the phone with police.  Cissell says, "They seem to think that he did a straight shot towards the bedroom, grabbed my dresser with all of the jewelry in it, and took off."

But she also says he didn't get far:  "They had caught him on Interstate 65 before they even came here to see me."  Bullitt Co. Detective Buddy Stump says police had, "Been actively looking for this van down in Jefferson County for a couple of weeks."

Police say 26-year-old Edward Savelli was driving the van, and is also the ringleader in a major burglary theft ring.  Det. Stump continues: "The van was actually doing multiple burglaries every day."

Police also say the suspects hit more than forty homes in Jefferson County, Mt. Washingon, and Bullitt County, taking televisions, computers, guns, and jewelry.  Det. Stump explains, "It's way up in the tens of thousands of dollars in merchandise that has been stolen."

Savelli eventually led police to some of the homes and the other suspects.  In addition to Savelli, police also arrested 27-year-old Steven Watson and 19-year-old Caroline Pond in connection with the break-ins, and 57-year-old Thomas Houtchins and his son, 23-year-old Jacob Houtchins were both arrested and charged with receiving stolen property.

Tanya Cissell's home was targeted even though she had a working alarm.  She'll keep using it for peace of mind.  But that's not the only reason her family will sleep a little better tonight.  "Just knowing that they are off the streets now," she says is the other reason.
