A visitation was held Saturday for a 15-year-old southern Indiana girl. Alexis Oesterle was found dead earlier this week. Her stepfather has been arrested and charged with her murder. The stepfather Ryan Shelby is only a suspect. Family members say there have been problems for a while and that's why there was no big surprise when police arrested him.

"They took him for a polygraph and arrested him, he never came back," said Jeff Spong, victim's grandfather.

Jeff is trying to guide his loved ones through a devastating family tragedy.

"Everybody is just totally devastated over this," said Jeff.

Earlier this week, his 15-year-old granddaughter, Alexis Oesterle was murdered in Rockport, Indiana.

"15-years-old with a life ahead of her," replied Jeff.

A short time later her own stepfather, Ryan Shelby was arrested and charged with the crime.

"We would like to know why, but he's not going to say. He's not going to say," Jeff told Fox 41 News.

Shelby did not talk during his arraignment earlier this week either.

"I have had concerns. I wanted to come down her in December when I get vacation times and see what I can do. I mean and it has come to this," said Jeff.

Jeff is focused on helping his daughter do what no parent should ever have to do, bury a child, and it has not been easy.

"When she first went in this morning, she just wanted her to wake up, she wanted her to wake up, come back," Jeff said .

Outside the funeral home, there were signs everywhere that Alexis was loved and will be missed. Some family and friends wore tee-shirts with her picture and others wrote messages on their cars.

"It shows you that all this community and their friends care about her, how much she meant to them," said Jeff.

Jeff has one last message to one of the police officers who worked the case.

"The officer Dunsworth who took his time to search the property, and just didn't take a report and leave, my daughter Jessica thanks him and my whole family thanks him," replied Jeff.

15-year-old Alexis Oesterle will be laid to rest Sunday. Family members are still trying to raise money to pay for the service. If you would like to help, you'll find the information here.
