Charlestown High School students receive laptops

Every student and teacher at Charlestown High School takes home an Apple laptop computer starting Tuesday.  The Greater Clark School District is spending $750,000 over three years to rent the computers.

Students will use them in every class as part of a broader effort to ensure they graduate with up-to-the-minute technological skills.  As junior Aaron Fielding put it, "I know that this is really going to help us in our futures as we go on to college and our jobs that this is really going to help us progress with all this technology."

The school district and Charlestown's mayor had lobbied for the program for several years.  They believe the computers encourage further learning, especially among students who might be having difficulty in some of their classes.

Students at Charlestown Middle School get their computers in January, and students at Pleasant Ridge Elementary already have them.
