Indiana teachers union reach tentative agreement

The teacher's union reached the tentative agreement with the school board last week. The agreement comes after six years of negotiations and bargaining.

The deal calls for a cash bonus of 2 percent for both the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 school years. Teachers also get a half percent retroactive raise for 2006, and then a 1 percent raise each for 2007-2008, and 2009-2010 school years.

While cost of living has gone up, North Harrison teachers have received no raises since 2004. Many say the tentative contract is not exactly what they hoped for.

Teachers and the school board are still negotiating issues surrounding severance and teacher retirement.

Teachers don't think they'll begin ratifying the contract for another 30 days.
