Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear says time is tight when it comes to placing video lottery terminals at race tracks. "We're funding education in Indiana, Illinois, West Virginia, and now, coming up with, Ohio. You know, that doesn't make any sense."
The governor spoke Tuesday morning at a breakfast sponsored by Greater Louisville, Inc. He says race track slots could probably be passed through the legislature. But he believes approving casino gambling will likely take a constitutional amendment.
Opponents to expanded gaming say it leads to increased alcoholism, drug abuse, and neglect of children.
Governor Beshear had a more positive outlook on efforts to help businesses that are already in the state expand: "We can create a lot more jobs by working with existing businesses and getting them to expand than we can just chasing a business from someplace else."
The governor also says he wants to make sure the state doesn't add additional taxes onto businesses.
